Before you jump on the blogging bandwagon there are a few things you should consider.
Your blog has to be updated on a regular basis. If your blog contains longer, in depth entries you can get away with weekly updates. Other blogs such as celebrity gossip or news blogs require several updates per day. Before you choose your topic, remember that you will have to write about the topic over and over. Therefore choose a topic you know well and are passionate about.
Unless you have major connections or a hefty advertising budget, your blog will initially be a ghost town. Don’t let that discourage you as everyone has to start somewhere. But before you start blogging you should know that you will not only have to write, but you’ll also need to take time to market your blog.
Blogging is not for the faint of heart. Unless you choose to disable comments on your blog (which I don’t advise) you’ll eventually receive feedback- if you are lucky. Sometimes people will praise your writing and other times they’ll tell you that you are the biggest idiot in the world. That’s ok; take it with stride because at least you know that someone is out there reading your words.
If you are afraid of learning new things then get out of the kitchen! Sorry but if you shutter at the thought of having to learn new technology then blogging is not for you. You have to be willing to learn how to choose a blogging platform, how to navigate that platform and basic blogging terminology.
Blogging is not a key to riches. Some people would have you believe that all you have to do is setup a free blogger blog , slap up adsense, and watch your bank account grow. This is not true. As with anything worth having, a profitable blog takes time to build.
